POTAWATOMI BINGO CASINO DONATES LUGGAGE TO LEGAL AID SOCIETY

TEAM MEMBER GENEROSITY WILL IMPACT ALMOST 100 MILWAUKEE COUNTY FOSTER CHILDREN
MILWAUKEE (June 17, 2009) - Almost 100 foster children from Milwaukee County will be presented with luggage after Potawatomi Bingo Casino held a team member drive to collect duffle bags, backpacks and suitcases.
The luggage collected was given to the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee – a 2008 Miracle on Canal Street charity providing free legal service to thousands of the most vulnerable area residents, including abused and neglected children.
“Our team members rose to the occasion, and showed just how much they care about the children in our community,” Potawatomi Bingo Casino General Manager Mike Goodrich said. “This shows the tangible impact Miracle on Canal Street has on southeastern Wisconsin.”
The donations will be distributed to area foster children who are often transferred from home to home without anything to pack their belongings in.
"The Potawatomi Bingo Casino/Legal Aid Society partnership will provide an important sense of personal dignity to children whose lives have gotten off to a very rough start," said Tom Cannon, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society.
Potawatomi Bingo Casino has worked closely with its Miracle on Canal Street charities over the past year. Some of these efforts include baking Christmas cookies for area senior citizens, chaperoning at teen dances and reading to children.
Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s Miracle on Canal Street is in its 16th year. Since 1994, the program has raised $8.5 million for nearly 300 local charities. Miracle on Canal Street serves to improve the quality of life for children in southeastern Wisconsin through funds raised from special bingo games and the generosity of our guests. Applications for the 2009 program are being accepted through June 30 from charities serving children in Milwaukee, Washington, Ozaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Dodge and Kenosha counties. Details can be found at www.paysbig.com/miracle.
