FOREST COUNTY POTAWATOMI COMMUNITY ANNOUNCES NEW LOCATION, DATES FOR 5th ANNUAL HUNTING MOON (GI WSE GISES)POW WOW

MILWAUKEE (Sept. 24, 2009) – The fifth-annual Hunting Moon (Gi Wse Gises) Pow Wow will be held Oct. 23 through Oct. 25 at Potawatomi Bingo Casino, 1721 W. Canal St., Milwaukee. This marks the first time the event will be held at the Casino. The event is free and open to the public.

Almost 350 dancers and more than 20 drum groups from throughout the United States are expected to perform at this year’s Hunting Moon Pow Wow. Prize money to be awarded totals more than $95,000.

The Pow wow is a centuries-old event, drawing families together, allowing friends to dance and celebrate with one another and attracting every age group – from the very young to the elderly – to share songs and dances. While all Pow wows are social events, many celebrate the harvest or change of seasons.

Pow wow attendees will witness an event steeped in tradition, full of color and sound and featuring some of the finest Native American dancers in the region.

Like other celebrations, Pow wows also feature Native American foods and handmade crafts.

“This event is a very important part of Native American and Potawatomi culture – an event where everyone is welcome,” said Potawatomi Bingo Casino General Manager Mike Goodrich. “We are pleased to bring the event home to Potawatomi Bingo Casino this year.”
