TRIBAL BENEFITS
The following services are made possible with
revenue generated from the tribe's gaming and other business
operations. These programs include:
Health Care
Tribal members receive affordable medical, dental and mental
health services at the 11,600-square-foot Potawatomi Health
and Wellness Center, constructed on the reservation in 1995.
Education
Tribal members benefit from a full range of educational programs
that combine academic and cultural teachings. For instance,
Potawatomi culture plays a central role in Even Start, a multi-faceted
program designed to aid the development of academic, physical,
social/ emotional, cultural and spiritual skills.
Daycare
The 8,640-square-foot Rising Sun Daycare Center, completed
in 1995, houses the tribe's daycare and Head Start programs.
Youth Activities
A sizable portion of the Forest County Potawatomi population
is under the age of 18. For this reason, we place considerable
emphasis on creating suitable education, social development,
employment and recreation opportunities for children.
Elderly Services
Comprehensive programs help ensure the needs of the elderly
are met. Services range from congregation and home-delivered
meals to in-home health services, transportation and home
repair.
Housing
Until recently, much of the housing on the reservation was
substandard, some without running water, sewer service or
electricity. To reverse these problems, a significant amount
of home renovation and new home construction is taking place.
The majority of the projects are made possible through loans
from the tribe.
Environment
A clean environment is crucial to the Potawatomi lifestyle,
yet the environmental health of the reservation is constantly
being challenged by outside sources. The tribe is working
diligently to ensure that the quality of the air, land and
water are protected.
