ECOMOMIC BENEFITS
For hundreds of years, the Potawatomi people
enjoyed a self-sufficient economy, deriving all its sustenance
from the environment. In return, the tribe took only from
Mother Earth what she was able to replenish. Displaced from
its fertile homelands, the delicate balance of this lifestyle
was devastated. In recent years, careful planning and prudent
use of revenues generated through Native American gaming and
various business operations have made possible a resurgence
of tribal prospects.
The Potawatomi strongly believe that economic development
which benefits the entire community is in the best interest
of both tribal members and non-Natives. To this end, the tribe's
gaming and business endeavors produce many positive results,
including job creation, out-of-state tourism revenue, and
reducing poverty and unemployment.
