Northern Lights Theater
The Potawatomi are Woodland Indians, and many of the bead patterns
that were created throughout history were derivative of nature forms. In the
Northern Lights Theater, the bead pattern that frames the stage reflects that
fact through a vine and leaf design. According to Clarice Werle-Ritchie, a tribal
historian, the pattern was designed by the grandmother of Mary Wensaut, one
of the Potawatomi tribal elders. Marion Tecumseh, known to other tribal members
as Monyon, created the woodland pattern that is seen magnified around the stage
area.
Stage Bead Pattern
Many of the design elements around the casino, like the bead
pattern, were made with painstaking detail and time. Be sure to look closely
the next time you visit the Northern Lights Theater to fully capture the history
that frames today's entertainment.
