First Bad Beat Jackpot Hits in Potawatomi Bingo Casino Poker Room

MILWAUKEE – Eighty-one poker players at Potawatomi Bingo Casino were part of history Dec. 14 as the inaugural Bad Beat Jackpot hit on a Texas Hold ’Em 10-player table. The casino’s first $164,545 jackpot had been growing since October and each Texas Hold ’Em player in the Poker Room shared part of the overall jackpot.

Frank W. of Menomonee Falls, Wis., had the best losing hand and walked away with $49,363 while Kathy K. of Park Ridge, Ill., took home $32,909 as the player with the winning hand. The other eight players at their table each won $6,170 and all additional Texas Hold ‘Em players in the room won $463 each when the jackpot hit. The Bad Beat Jackpot was awarded when Frank’s hand of four 6’s lost to Kathy’s hand of four aces.

“I’ve been coming to the Poker Room at Potawatomi Bingo Casino more often since the Bad Beat Jackpot promotion started and can’t believe I ended up as the big winner,” said Frank. “Texas Hold ‘Em is my game and it’s great that the opportunity to win extra money through the Bad Beat Jackpot is now available at the casino.”

A Bad Beat occurs when a player with a qualifying, high-ranking poker hand loses to a player with a stronger poker hand. The player with the losing, qualifying hand takes home 30 percent of the current Bad Beat Jackpot total while the player with the winning hand in the traditional game receives 20 percent. In addition, 30 percent of the jackpot is divided equally amongst the other players at the table and 20 percent is paid out equally to the other Texas Hold ‘Em players who were in the room and dealt in at the time the Bad Beat occurred.

Now that the first Bad Beat Jackpot for Potawatomi Bingo Casino is in the books, the progressive jackpot has started over. One dollar from each Texas Hold ‘Em pot of $15 or more is being added to the current jackpot total.

“Our Poker guests have been asking for a Bad Beat Jackpot promotion for awhile, so it’s generated a lot of excitement and interest from players,” said Jeff Gemini, Poker Room Manager at Potawatomi Bingo Casino. “We’re always looking for new ways to keep our players happy and it will definitely be interesting to see how large the next jackpot gets in the coming weeks. You just never know when it will hit again.”
