Milwaukee's own John McGivern brings hilarious "Shear Madness" to Potawatomi's Northern Lights Theater Oct. 9-Nov. 15

John McGivern, Emmy-award winning actor and host of the popular PBS program “Around the Corner with John McGivern,” will star in the hilarious whodunit “Shear Madness” Oct. 9-Nov. 15 at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino’s Northern Lights Theater. “Shear Madness” has played to more than 10 million people in a dozen countries and has been translated into 15 foreign languages in over 60 productions around the world.

Written by Paul Portner and adapted by Marilyn Abrams and Bruce Jordan in 1978, “Shear Madness” is the longest running non-musical in American theater history. The play is set in a hair salon where everyone is a murder suspect and the audience gets to help the actors solve the crime. This comedy is full of spontaneous humor, local references and a surprise outcome that is different every performance.

“For the past six years, people have been asking when ‘Shear Madness’ is coming back to Milwaukee,” McGivern said. “This show is the most fun I’ve ever had on stage, so I’m very excited to pick up the haircutting shears for one last run.”

McGivern is also thrilled to be joined by the show’s original director, Bruce Jordan, and the veteran Milwaukee cast which includes Norman Moses, Mary McDonald Kerr, Jenny Wanasek, Patrick Noonan and Matthew Huebsch.

“This comedy dream team is looking forward to returning to the salon in the state-of-the-art Northern Lights Theater,” McGivern said.

“With the opening of our 381-room hotel, this is the perfect time to expand our entertainment options and offer extended-run shows like ‘Shear Madness’ that will entice new guests to visit and stay at our property,” said Thomas Malloy, Assistant General Manager of Marketing for Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. “Northern Lights Theater already has a reputation as a top entertainment venue, so we’re excited to bring this play to our stage and believe the intimate setting will help the audience feel like they’re a part of the show.”
