Potawatomi Bingo Casino to Award 2011 Miracle on Canal Street Funds Dec. 9
MILWAUKEE – Thirty children’s charities from southeastern Wisconsin will receive a very special holiday gift, as Potawatomi Bingo Casino announces and distributes money raised during the 2011 Miracle on Canal Street program.
The 2011 Miracle charities will celebrate the joyous moment of unveiling the grand total with more than 1,000 Bingo guests and casino team members Friday, Dec. 9, during the Miracle Bingo Bash.
Funded primarily through the Miracle bingo game – sold during every bingo session in the Casino’s Nest of Life Bingo Hall – the program has raised more than $10.5 million for nearly 350 local children’s charities since its inception in 1994.
In 2010, nearly $1 million was raised, with more than $33,000 going to each participating charity. The Miracle on Canal Street gift will be the largest donation some of these organizations receive throughout the year.
“Celebrating Miracle on Canal Street with representatives of these vital children’s organizations is one of the highlights of my year,” said Melanie Martin, Bingo Director at Potawatomi Bingo Casino. “Knowing these funds will directly improve the lives of youth in our community will fill the Bingo hall with a warmth that will be felt throughout the year.”
Twenty of this year’s charities were chosen through a random drawing held in August and 10 signature charities were chosen and sponsored by the Casino’s Miracle media partners. The organizations will use Miracle funds to improve the lives of children in our community by addressing various needs - from basic needs to specialized therapy, from music-based and theatrical programs to extracurricular activities.
