Potawatomi Hotel & Casino's Peter Gebauer named Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federations Chefs of Milwaukee

Peter Gebauer, Potawatomi Hotel & Casino’s Executive Chef, was recently named the 2014 Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation Chefs of Milwaukee.

Gebauer oversees culinary operations at Potawatomi’s seven restaurants and catering operations. He has served as executive chef since his arrival in 2006.


“I’m proud, but also very humbled by the honor,” said Gebauer, current president of the American Culinary Federation Chefs of Milwaukee. “Milwaukee has many talented chefs and has truly undergone a renaissance when it comes to the culinary arts.” 

Since arriving at Potawatomi, the property has more than doubled the number of restaurants on site. Those dining outlets serve nearly 2.5 million guests annually. Catering operations have increased significantly with the addition of tens of thousands of square feet in meeting space. Nearly 700 catered events take place on property annually.

“Chef Gebauer has been integral in the growth of the food and beverage department at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. More importantly, he has elevated the quality of culinary offerings here,” said Don Sally, Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Food & Beverage Director. “His success is more than evident in the reputation our property has garnered and can largely be attributed to his leadership through education and mentoring.”

Gebauer implemented the property’s Culinary Academy, a sophisticated program which gives food and beverage employees at Potawatomi a comprehensive education covering all facets of the culinary arts. Since its inception, hundreds have completed the program.

Gebauer’s career has spanned decades and continents – including stints in Hong Kong, the Middle East, Singapore and Cancun.
