The soul movement lives on with The O’Jays. The 1950s saw an explosion of soul singers in and around the East Coast as the burgeoning sound grew into epic proportions. Holding steadily through the decades, soul gave way to R&B and lives on today. At the center of this movement was The O’Jays, with their catchy singles aligned closely with the labels that released them.
Signing with so many labels gave The O’Jays a creative edge to partner with various label mates and gain an influence from their sounds. This proved to be beneficial for The O’Jays, who grew their sound with the times and remained relevant in an ever-changing industry that was not as kind to their peers.
Still touring and still making music, The O’Jays are one of the last acts left from the golden age of soul.
