Damon Johnson is an American guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, currently a member of hard rock bands Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders. In the 1990s he co-founded Brother Cane, and later joined Alice Cooper‘s band as lead guitarist. Brother Cane released three heralded albums (on Virgin Records) between 1993 and 1998, yielding three #1 songs at U.S. Active Rock Radio: “Got No Shame” (1993), “And Fools Shine On” (1995) and “I Lie In The Bed I Make” (1998). Other Brother Cane songs getting considerable U.S. airplay were “That Don’t Satisfy Me”, “Hard Act To Follow”, “Breakmaker”, “Voice Of Eujena” and “Machete.”
He has released two solo acoustic albums and regularly performs as a solo artist. He recently released his first “electric” solo album, Echo , in the spring of 2016. Johnson has written songs that have been recorded by many other artists including Stevie Nicks and Carlos Santana and has been a member of some quality side projects as well, including Slave To The System (2001–2005 with Scott Rockenfield from Queensryche), Red Halo (2002) and Whiskey Falls (2007-2009). Johnson has toured the world as guitarist for Alice Cooper for six years (2004–2011) and has also contributed songwriting to Alice’s albums Dirty Diamonds and Along Came A Spider.
In late 2011, he became a member of Thin Lizzy. On the decision to record new music, while respecting the legacy of the late great Phil Lynott, the band morphed into a new entity, Black Star Riders. BSR has released two critically acclaimed albums (on Nuclear Blast Records), with all songs co-written by Johnson.
