August may be right around the corner, but there is still lots of summer fun to be had in Milwaukee! Check out some of these area festivals and events to sample culture, live music and plenty of eatables.

Black Arts Fest MKE | Aug. 4
A newcomer to the Milwaukee cultural festival scene, Black Arts Fest MKE is a celebration of African and African American culture! Held at Henry Maier Festival Park, four stages of entertainment—including a children’s stage—will feature live music, dance performances and workshops. Potawatomi Hotel & Casino is thrilled to be a sponsor of this event! The first 1,500 people to visit the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino tent at the mid-gate will receive FREE admission to the festival. Those who receive a free admission ticket (valid only between noon and 3 PM) will also get an offer for FKC Reward Play to use at Potawatomi.

Wisconsin State Fair | Aug. 2-12
Summer in Wisconsin isn’t complete without a trip to the Wisconsin State Fair. Always a fan favorite, there’s something for everyone at the fair — from live music to shopping, and plenty of food on a stick! Make sure to check out the State Fair Main Stage, presented by Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, featuring performances by musical heavy hitters such as Alice Cooper, BoDeans, TLC, Foreigner and Reba McEntire and many more. And don’t forget to pick up a six-pack of the Fair’s famous cream puffs on your way out!

The Greatest Love of All – The Whitney Houston Tribute Show Starring Belinda Davids | August 13-17
This live concert at the Northern Lights Theater featuring the breathtaking vocal talent of Belinda Davids, is a fun and uplifting homage to Whitney Houston. The two-hour production will fill you with joy, nostalgia and wonderment as you are taken on a heartfelt musical journey through Whitney’s greatest hits. The show includes Houston’s most popular tracks from the full span of her career, including “I Will Always Love You,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “I’m Every Woman,” combined with replica costuming and full-scale lighting and effects to produce a spectacular concert experience that honors Houston’s memory and celebrates her musical legacy. Milwaukee Irish Fest | Aug. 16-19
If you’re feeling lucky, head over to Irish Fest and take in an Irish music and dance performances, sample tasty traditional and not-so-traditional bites and imbibe an array of whiskeys at the Jameson Whiskey Lounge. Not to be missed for dog lovers:  the fest’s unique Celtic Canine Area offers visitors the chance to meet and learn about Ireland’s eight breeds, including Irish Wolfhounds, Irish Red Setters and Kerry Blue Terriers — visitors can even pet the dogs! With so many activities to enjoy, including parades, a Leprechaun Village and a Children’s Tea Room, the long-standing Irish Fest is sure to please the entire family.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel a la Carte | Milwaukee County Zoo | Aug. 16-19
Now in its 34th consecutive year, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel à la Carte is arguably the Milwaukee County Zoo’s most highly-anticipated annual event. “Feast with the Beasts” and nosh on delicious offerings from 26 area restaurants, enjoy musical performances from national and local bands at numerous stages and visit your favorite animals! This year’s national headliners are 1964 The Tribute, Wynonna & The Big Noise and ASIA featuring John Payne, along with a variety of great local acts. Visitors can plan their music line-up schedule, view detailed food information and create customized menus through the à la Carte app for Android and iOS.

MAM After Dark: Rev It Up! | Milwaukee Art Museum | August 17
Go beyond art and enjoy music, dancing, food and drink at the Milwaukee Art Museum, as it transforms into a nocturnal entertainment destination for one night each month! Rev It Up!, the theme for August’s MAM After Dark event, is a celebration of Harley Davidson’s 115th anniversary, and offers guests a different way to experience one of Milwaukee’s most iconic buildings. Take the Wild Card Tour, enjoy a rousing game of Quizmaster’s Team Trivia in Café Calatrava or cruise through the galleries on a scavenger hunt for prizes. Admission is free for Museum members!

Mexican Fiesta | Aug. 24-26
Closing out the month of August is another favorite Milwaukee cultural festival, Mexican Fiesta. The impressive Cultural Pavilion showcases Latin arts, crafts and, of course, delicious authentic fare from Mexico. Live music, dance and a Sunday procession and mass immerse visitors in a true experience of rich Mexican culture. The festival is brought to the community by the nonprofit Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (WHSF), whose mission is to empower Hispanic youth by providing educational opportunities and scholarships.
