Place Your Bets on a Good Time: Potawatomi Bingo Casino Celebrates 139th Kentucky Derby May 4

MILWAUKEE - The 139th Kentucky Derby, the most exciting two minutes in sports, will be the featured event at Potawatomi Bingo Casino on Saturday, May 4.

In addition to the Casino’s spacious, smoke-free Off-Track Betting Room, guests can catch the racing action on a 20-foot screen in the 500-seat Northern Lights Theater. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. in the Off-Track Betting Room and 9 a.m. in the Northern Lights Theater.

This year’s Kentucky Derby festivities will also include a hat contest, where guests with a flair for fashion and creativity can enter to win cash prizes. Hats can either be store-bought or homemade and will be judged on creativity, originality, presentation and audience reaction. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and participants must have a valid photo I.D. and a Fire Keeper’s Club card to enter the contest. The first place winner will receive $300 cash with additional cash prizes awarded to second and third place.

“Whether you’re a die-hard racing fan or a novice to the sport, Potawatomi Bingo Casino is the premier location to watch the Kentucky Derby and get a taste of the traditions that make it the most popular thoroughbred racing event in the U.S.,” said Paul Lurenz, Jr., off-track betting manager for the Casino.

Another tradition that makes the race special is the mint julep, which will be served in the Northern Lights Theater and the Fire Pit Sports Bar & Grill. As an alternative to the mint julep, guests can also enjoy Bourbon Barrel Beer. And, as in previous years, Fire Keeper’s Club members will receive a commemorative Kentucky Derby glass when they present their wagering ticket while supplies last.

Advance wagering on the Kentucky Derby and its preceding races begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, in the Off-Track Betting Room. Traditional tellers and convenient self-service betting terminals will be available. Wagers start as low as $1 and Casino staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Open 364 days a year, Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s 5,000 square-foot Off-Track Betting Room features 115 television screens, convenient self-service betting terminals and a large, smoke-free seating area for guests to watch a wide selection of simulcast thoroughbred and greyhound races from around the world.
